Free, Drop-in Peer Support Groups

Alternatives to Suicide

Alternatives to Suicide (Alt2Su) groups are a confidential space where people who struggle or have struggled with suicidality can openly talk about their experiences with others who have “been there.” In this peer support space, we do not assume you have an illness, do not assess for risk or involuntary intervention, and do not call the police.  While this is an open space to talk about difficult things we’re feeling or thinking about, we actually talk about a variety of things in these groups, struggles and strengths. We also share laughs, talk about cats, eat snacks, and go with whatever’s on our minds.

Facilitated by people with lived experience, these groups are not just for people who are actively suicidal, but for anyone who has experienced suicidality at some point in their life and would benefit from a non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts and emotions with others who are coming with their own honest experiences. Click here for the Alt2Su group FAQ.

To learn more about how these groups are different from typical approaches, read a brief interview with one of the developers of these groups here.

Peer Support for Peer Supporters

Are you a peer support worker? Offering peer support in groups or one-on-one? Join us for a monthly space where we can "co-reflect," talk about what's been coming up for us, and support each other in our work.

What is co-reflection?

  • Helps us reflect on our practice and build expertise together.

  • Separate from clinical supervision; 'by and for' peers to learn & reflect.

  • Uses Intentional Peer Support principles and tasks.

2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month, 12:00 - 1:15pm Mountain Time.

1st Fridays from 1:00 - 2:15pm Mountain Time.

Confidential, virtual, free, drop-in space.

Contact mia.campbell@yarrowcollective.org with a brief description of what your peer support looks like to get the Zoom link.

Community
Forum

If you have ever attended a Yarrow Collective virtual support group, please join us for any or all of our Community Forums.

We will discuss on what is going well in our virtual group spaces and what can be improved.

Being a peer group where we co-create & hold the space together, showing up to a forum meeting is a way to participate in the mutuality of the group.

First Mondays of March, May, August, & November

2-3:30pm MST on Zoom

FAQ About Online Groups

Where is the Zoom link?

For Alternatives to Suicide online and Chronic illness & Disability group, go to our online calendar. Wait for the calendar to load and click on one of the group listings to find the Zoom link in the description. You can also scroll past the calendar where the link is always posted. For our community co-reflection, email Mia (mia.campbell@yarrowcollective.org) with a brief description of your peer support work (volunteer work welcome) to get the link.

What about online security?

If you have online security concerns, please check out this document where we outline what Yarrow can and can't do related to security in digital spaces.

I need to attend a support group as my of my social work or nursing degree. Can I come observe one of your support groups?

Our groups are only open to the lived experience that's discussed in our spaces and not open to observers. It can be really jarring to folks in the space when someone comes just to observe. We encourage you to check out our community events and trainings that tend to be more open if you want to learn more about the peer support approach.
